In this project I was responsible for the Level Design which I started by planning the layout of the map and setting up the different rooms for every puzzle.

Then I started blocking out every room before I moved over to choosing the right assets and building our dungeon environment. Since it is set in a medieval dungeon which was created by a kind of scientist/mage there are elements like magic potions and books as well as portals. The idea was that the player is trapped in the dungeon for research purposes and is being watched as he tries to solve the puzzles and get out. That's why there is also this tube like room with a window where the scientist could watch you trying to get out of the tubes.

The whole vibe is this kind of old and a little wrecked environment but still very functional in its purpose with this kind of mysterious and magical feeling to it.

While Level & Environment Design were again my main focus, I also worked on some programming tasks like implementing some of the puzzles.

What I Learned

  • Set Dressing – Creating believable environments through the placement of props and environmental details
  • Environmental Readability – Making important objects and visual details recognizable to the player
  • Communication – Communicating ideas and design decisions clearly within a team
  • Problem Solving – Working together to identify challenges and develop effective solutions
  • Creative Compromise – Balancing different ideas and perspectives to achieve a cohesive result
