My Contributions
This project was a semester project and part of a cooperation with Black Forest Games. We had weekly meetings to give updates and get feedback on the development.
I took some programming tasks for the anomalies but as it was written in Verse I had some problems at the beginning but worked it out eventually.
I was mainly responsible for Level Design and created the Layout of the spacestation as well as the positioning of the anomalies. At first I did some blockout of the level, which was just 2 identical corridors next to each other. One had anomalies the other one didn't. The two videos show the first and second iteration of the level. It was planned as a singleplayer in the beginning but then transformed into a co-op experience. Therefore I needed to make the corridor wider, so both players could maneuver easily.
The design of the spacestation also changed massively. At first I had this modern, white station in mind with the blue lighting also giving away this sci-fi vibe. When we leaned more into a horror direction, the white and blue tone felt off. I chose to rebuild the level with new assets which in my opinion better represented the eerie vibe we were going for while still giving a sci-fi feeling.
Unfortunately I no longer have access to the project since it was handed over to Black Forest Games, and those videos are the only media of the development I have.
What I Learned
- Player Guidance – Guiding players through an environment using visual cues, lighting, and composition
- Adaptability – Adapting to changes and supporting the team when challenges arise
- UEFN – Learning a new development environment
